I have had some trouble with my September 10 post. If you already read it, please read it again for the rest of the story. Thanks for following my blog!
Today is Sunday and we are going to a Cambodian United Methodist Church, who also sponsers CHAD. We did a storytelling activity with the church as the service that morning. After church we went to lunch at the local village diner and had a very nice lunch. We then went to another village and visited church service there. It was the same service we had earlier, but it was great. We went to the rice bank that they had there and then saw the cows. We all said our goodbeyes and went back to the hotel. We ate lunch at a restaraunt right next door to the hotel and had some amazing smoothies and fish+chips. We then prepared for leaving for Sehonikville tomorrow morning.
Today is my birthday ,or at least in Cambodia it is.Today me and my dad went to a CHAD site...CHAD stands for Community Heath & Agricultural Development. Today we saw rice fields ,a pig farm ,cows ,and rural Cambodia...this should be interesting! Our leader picked us up at the hotel in a little red car and said she could take that on the dirt roads; she then said we should drive the truck. My first thought was...YES we might get stuck! It was an hour and a half drive to the CHAD site #1, we talked about what we would be doing and where we would be. We arrived at a pastor/ farmer's house and church and I saw a TRACTOR, but it was a "hand tractor" the kind that you have to walk behind. We then talked with the farmer and saw his cows, home, church, and rice fields we then left for the next farm/church. This woman was a pastor and had a great vegetable garden, but the amazing thing is it is all growing in sand. most people know you can't grow crops in sand, but she found a way, using fermented compost. It is made out of typical household items. After we visited with her we invited them all to lunch at the local village restaurant. We had a very nice lunch and then visited yet another church with a cow and pig sharing program. The pastor was outside to greet us when we arrived at the newly built church. We all talked for a little while and then went to see the first pig. this pig was only 6 months old and was eating a rice bran and water. We then went to the "momma pig" who had just had piglets. The young piglets were so cute, but the momma pig was kind of sorry looking, for on e she had no food or water anywhere near her. We then left the CHAD site(s) and went to a feed store so my dad could look at Cambodian feed. He ended up buying a bag of baby pig feed to take back to work for "research" After that ordeal we went to my "surprise" birthday party. We had 10 coconuts to share and a grape cake. IT WAS DELICIOUS! We went to a drumming show in Phnom Penh ,and it was amazing, but loud. We went back to the hotel then and went to sleep.
